Boom or Bust: QB

Tannehill makes jump to elite territory

Boom

Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee

Last year, I missed completely on my Boom & Bust on my quarterbacks, but I plan to redeem myself this year.

Tennessee’s Ryan Tannehill has the benefit of a healthy A.J. Brown and offseason acquisition Julio Jones to throw to for this season and could push for a top 5 QB finish with more opportunities.

With a new offensive coordinator, I believe Tannehill will finally be unleashed for a 500-plus pass season, using his alpha WRs and a quality TE in Anthony Firkser.

Bust

Matt Ryan, Atlanta

With Julio out of Atlanta, Matt Ryan may see his passing numbers fall with former Tennessee offensive coordinator Arthur Smith as the new Falcons coach.

During Smith’s two seasons as the OC, the Titans averaged 30.1 (2020) and 26.9 (2019) passes per game. The Falcons have averaged 39.2 (2020) and 42.8 (2019).

The Falcons added tight end Kyle Pitts, but in the last 20 years, Rob Gronkowski had the best rookie season for a TE with only 156.6 points in a full PPR format. Jones scored 146.1 points during last year’s injury-plagued season.

Sleeper

Tua Tagovailoa, Miami

Miami surrounded its 2020 first-round QB with several new receiving assets in Will Fuller and rookie Jaylen Waddle but did not address their backfield concerns.

It appears the Dolphins will be opening up the offense with Tagovailoa another year removed from his hip injury and a year experience in the league.

With experienced WR Devante Parker and TE Mike Gesicki, Tua will have plenty of targets to throw to when they all get healthy.
