DFS Week 5

Updated: Oct 8, 2022

Brady, Bucs to feast again vs. Falcons

Oh the ups and downs this fantasy football season continues to plague me across the board.

Win one week, lose the next in my leagues, AND then a big week in DFS one week and down the next.

Very frustrating to say the least!

My cash lineup finished with 125.62 points, but I was one player or play away from reaching the green in my cash tournaments.

Romeo Doubs’ dropped 40-yard TD catch would have snuck me into the green in half of my cash games, while choosing Rashaad Penny over Khalil Herbert would have made all cash tournaments green worthy. But the correlation of starting two running backs in the same game is usually a no-no in cash game lineup construction. Damn the Detroit defense!

I will be providing my main cash and GPP lineups on my Patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/fantasyfbguru

Onto this week’s players list!

Quarterback

Top play

Tom Brady, Tampa Bay ($6,000): Brady has destroyed the Atlanta defense in his four games as the Bucs’ QB. He has thrown for more than 360 yards in three games and in the other game he threw five TDs.

Other QBs

Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia ($8,100)

Kyler Murray, Arizona ($7,400)

Justin Herbert, LA Chargers ($7,100)

Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville ($5,600)

I believe paying up for a QB is a good option for cash this week. Hurts still gives you that upside with his rushing. Murray should be in a negative game script vs. the undefeated Eagles (but I have a sneaky feeling the Cardinals win this trap game). Herbert faces a Cleveland defense that is struggling getting to the QB. Lawrence gives you a cheap option as they face a Houston defense that gave up 34 points at home last week.

Running back

Top play

Nick Chubb, Cleveland ($8,000): Chubb averages 19.79 fantasy points a game vs. a bad defense at home, according to Bob Lung’s Consistency Guide. The Chargers are 30th in fantasy points allowed to RBs this season.

Value plays

Leonard Fournette, Tampa Bay ($6,900)

James Robinson, Jacksonville ($6,300)

Rhamondre Stevenson, New England ($5,500)

Jeff Wilson Jr., San Francisco ($5,500)

Fournette continues to make the most out of his receiving chances (16 catches out of 19 targets) as he finally found the end zone last week. Robinson has the best matchup of the week as he faces the Houston defense which is 32nd in fantasy points allowed to RBs. I’m going the cheaper option in the New England backfield with Stevenson vs. the dreadful Detroit defense. Wilson Jr. is seeing just less than 18 touches a game and only needs to score 13.75 points (he’s averaging 12.77 points since taking over the starting job in Week 2) to earn a fire emoji.

Cheap plays

Tyler Allgeier, Atlanta ($4,700)

Caleb Huntley, Atlanta ($4,300)

One of the young Atlanta RBs should pay off their value in this game, but the key will be which one.

Wide receiver

Top play

Cooper Kupp, LA Rams ($9,600): The Dallas rush defense will force Matthew Stafford to get the ball out quickly, and Kupp excels in the short yardage routes vs. 1-on-1 coverage. Another 10-plus catch game is highly probable.

Value plays

Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay ($5,900)

Chris Olave, New Orleans ($5,700)

Tyler Lockett, Seattle ($5,600)

George Pickens, Pittsburgh ($4,300)

Godwin is way too cheap as he enters Week 5 with no injury designation and saw 10 targets in his return last week. Olave will be the Saints’ No. 1 option with Michael Thomas missing another game. Lockett has averaged 10 targets a game during his last three games. Pickens will be very chalky but he has a nice rapport with new QB Kenny Pickett.

Cheap plays

Trent Sherfield, Miami ($3,300)

Khalil Shakir, Buffalo ($3,200)

Sherfield has played 63 percent of the snaps the last two weeks and would be the Dolphins’ No. 2 if Tyreek Hill or Jaylen Waddle miss with an injury. Shakir should see some run with the numerous injuries to the Bills’ WR corps, but should be the top owned player in cash if Isaiah McKenzie is ruled out.

Tight end

Top play

Zach Ertz, Arizona ($4,800): Ertz has scored at least 10.5 points each week this season on DraftKings and has a nice revenge matchup vs. the Eagles.

Value play

Tyler Higbee, LA Rams ($4,300)

Gerald Everett, LA Chargers ($4,200)

As we continue to see that Allen Robinson II is not very good, Higbee continues to be Stafford’s No. 2 target. Everett gets another game without Keenan Allen not in the lineup, but Donald Parham returns to action this week.

Cheap play

David Njoku, Cleveland ($3,800)

Cade Otton, Tampa Bay ($2,500)

The Browns should be in another negative game script and Njoku has been the most consistent receiver in the last three games. Otton is the next man up as Cameron Brate is out. Brady has thrown five TD passes to TEs in the Bucs last two games vs. the Falcons.
