Waiver Wire Frenzy Week 2

Updated: Sep 15, 2021

San Francisco backfield in waiver wire limelight

An Injury and a surprising inactive helped form this week’s list of the Waiver Wire Frenzy.

San Francisco’s Raheem Mostert posted on Twitter today that his season is over – opting for surgery on his injured knee cartilage. Plus, add in the unexpected inactive designation of Trey Sermon have most looking at another 49ers running back as the top waiver wire add this week.

Running Back

Eli Mitchell, San Francisco: 10 percent Yahoo! & 2 percent ESPN

Mitchell may be the first player of many who may cost a team manager more than 35 percent of their FAAB money.

Tony Jones Jr., New Orleans: 23 percent Yahoo! & 15 percent ESPN

Jones Jr. showed flashes why the Saints cut Latavius Murray.

Kenneth Gainwell, Philadelphia: 9 percent Yahoo! & 4 percent ESPN

He may have carved himself out a role as the No. 2 RB in the Eagles’ offense.

Quarterbacks

Jameis Winston, New Orleans: 44 percent Yahoo! & 26 percent ESPN

It’s hard to believe Winston is not rostered more on the big sites.

Teddy Bridgewater, Denver: 11 percent Yahoo! & 5 percent ESPN

A solid back-up or No. 2 in 2-QB leagues.

Sam Darnold, Carolina: 15 percent Yahoo! & 6 percent ESPN

He has plenty of weapons around him to be successful.

Taylor Heinicke, Washington: 1 percent Yahoo! & 0 percent ESPN

Has played well when called into relief.

Tyrod Taylor, Houston: 4 percent Yahoo! & 4 percent ESPN

He will give you a solid floor in 2-QB leagues with his rushing ability.

Wide Receivers

Tim Patrick, Denver: 2 percent Yahoo! & 1 percent ESPN

Will more than likely be the Broncos’ No. 2 WR after Jerry Jeudy’s injury.

Sterling Shepard, NY Giants: 39 percent Yahoo! & 25 percent ESPN

Has quietly scored 4 TDs in his last three games, dating back to last season.

Bryan Edwards, Las Vegas: 19 percent Yahoo! & 15 percent ESPN

Had a great camp, and despite slow start on Monday, he played a big role in the Raiders’ win.

Rondale Moore, Arizona: 27 percent Yahoo! & 19 percent ESPN

Had five targets on his 20 snaps and is a better long term option than Christian Kirk.

Tight Ends

Cole Kmet, Chicago: 34 percent Yahoo! & 22 percent ESPN

Played in 74 percent of snaps and had seven targets.

Dalton Schultz, Dallas: 1 percent Yahoo! & 1 percent ESPN

Pairs with Blake Jarwin to give Cowboys good 1-2 punch at TE.

Juwan Johnson, New Orleans: 11 percent Yahoo! & 1 percent ESPN

Two red zone targets = two TDs.
