Out with the old and in with the new
For the second straight week, an old veteran running back was waived by his respective team.
This week the Tennessee Titans has seen enough of Adrian Peterson to hand him his walking papers as Dontrell Hilliard (0 percent Yahoo! Sports & 0 percent ESPN) made his expendable over the weekend.
Hilliard was officially added to the 53-man roster this week after a strong showing in the Titans’ upset loss to Houston.
Peterson joins Le’Veon Bell, who Baltimore waived last week, looking for that one last job in the NFL but more than likely their NFL careers are over.
Onto this week’s Waiver Wire Frenzy list!
Quarterback
Mac Jones, New England (40 percent Yahoo! Sports & 22 percent ESPN)
A solid No. 2 in superflex leagues and for a possible spot start down the stretch.
Andy Dalton, Chicago (1 percent Yahoo! Sports & 0 percent ESPN)
If in desperate need, he’s a flier.
Running Back
Ty Johnson, NY Jets (21 percent Yahoo! Sports & 19 percent ESPN)
Tevin Coleman, NY Jets (3 percent Yahoo! Sports & 3 percent ESPN)
Johnson has more upside with Michael Carter out with a sprained ankle.
Rex Burkhead, Houston (1 percent Yahoo! Sports & 1 ESPN)
Should see the bulk of RB1 carries after the Texans waived Phillip Lindsay.
DeeJay Dallas, Seattle (1 percent Yahoo! Sports & 1 percent ESPN)
He is my favorite on the list of RBs who could make an impact down the stretch.
Matt Breida, Buffalo (2 percent Yahoo! Sports & 1 percent ESPN)
He could force Zack Moss to be a healthy scratch again.
Wide Receiver
Marqez Valdes-Scantling, Green Bay (9 percent Yahoo! Sports & 3 percent ESPN)
Despite seeing 10 targets, he only had 4 catches, but it’s his big-play ability.
Cedrick Wilson Jr., Dallas (3 percent Yahoo! Sports & 2 percent ESPN)
If CeeDee Lamb misses, Wilson Jr. could be a spot WR3/flex starter.
Russell Gage, Atlanta (17 percent Yahoo! Sports & 20 percent ESPN)
Spot WR3/flex start only since facing the Jaguars.
Tre’Quan Smith, New Orleans (4 percent Yahoo! Sports & 3 percent ESPN)
Top option in a low-volume passing offense.
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Tennessee (0 percent Yahoo! Sports & 0 ESPN)
The next man up in the Titans’ injured WR corps.
Marquise Goodwin, Chicago (0 percent Yahoo! Sports & 0 ESPN)
The speedster has value as long as Allen Robinson Jr. is hampered by a hamstring injury.
DeAndre Carter, Washington (3 percent Yahoo! Sports & 1 percent ESPN)
Scored a TD in three straight as he has assumed the role that injured Curtis Samuel was supposed to have.
Tight End
Ryan Griffin, NY Jets (1 percent Yahoo! Sports & 0 percent ESPN)
Favorable matchup vs. the Texans.
Juwan Johnson, New Orleans (3 percent Yahoo! Sports & 1 percent ESPN)
Adam Trautman is out for 4-to-6 weeks with a sprained MCL.
