Rookies are the focus of pick-ups
Injuries and poor starter play again has made this week’s Waiver Wire Frenzy another smorgasbord of players.
Denver running back Javonte Williams tore his ACL, Atlanta running back Cordarrelle Patterson was placed on IR with a knee injury and Pittsburgh rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett made his NFL debut in the Steelers’ loss to the Jets.
Onto this week’s pick-ups!
(Waiver wire options are based on Yahoo! Sports and ESPN player with less than 50 percent of ownership.)
Quarterback
Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh (6 percent Yahoo! & 4 percent ESPN)
Hopefully for the Steelers, another long QB career begins.
Geno Smith, Seattle (13 percent Yahoo! & 15 percent ESPN)
Smith is starting to prove he can carry the Seahawks’ offense.
Matt Ryan, Indianapolis (33 percent Yahoo! & 16 percent ESPN)
Ryan will have to carry the offense with Jonathan Taylor out with a high ankle sprain.
STASH CAN: Desmond Ridder, Atlanta (1 percent Yahoo! & 1 percent ESPN)
Running back
Tyler Allgeier, Atlanta (19 percent Yahoo! & 17 percent ESPN)
Becomes the de facto starter with Patterson’s injury.
Rachaad White, Tampa Bay (27 percent Yahoo! & 11 percent ESPN)
Even a fumble on the opening kickoff did not limit his role in the offense.
Mike Boone, Denver (3 percent Yahoo! & 0 percent ESPN)
Latavius Murray, Denver (1 percent Yahoo! & 0 percent ESPN)
One of them can carve out a nice role as Melvin Gordon III’s back-up.
STASH CAN: Jaylen Warren, Pittsburgh (9 percent Yahoo! & 5 percent ESPN)
Wide receiver
George Pickens, Pittsburgh (39 percent Yahoo! & 38 percent ESPN)
Breakout game corresponds with Pickett taking over at QB.
Corey Davis, NY Jets (25 percent Yahoo! & 7 percent ESPN)
He still appears to be a favorite target of Zach Wilson.
Rondale Moore, Arizona (18 percent Yahoo! & 21 percent ESPN)
He played 86 percent of the snaps in his first action of the season.
STASH CAN: Jameson Williams, Detroit (27 percent Yahoo! & 21 percent ESPN)
Tight end
Tyler Conklin, NY Jets (42 percent Yahoo! & 39 percent ESPN)
Even with a QB change, he still saw a 13.9 target share.
Robert Tonyan, Green Bay (32 percent Yahoo! & 22 percent ESPN)
Seeing a 12.7 target share, including 20 percent in the red zone.
STASH CAN: Mo Alie-Cox, Indianapolis (5 percent Yahoo! & 2 percent ESPN)
